Realizing the Vision:
College Reorganization

The Committee on College Reorganization in the Liberal Arts and Sciences is a committee of 30 faculty and students charged by the Provost on April 2, 2004 to help the University community (1) critically examine the current state of liberal arts and science education at MSU, and (2) discuss possible future reforms in the liberal arts and sciences, including the role of interdisciplinary programs and structural reorganizations that would improve teaching and research in the liberal arts and sciences.

The Committee is not an implementation committee charged with putting into practice any particular existing proposal or set of proposals. Its task is to help faculty, students, and administrators better understand the liberal arts and sciences at MSU and to report on October 1, 2004 to the Provost and the University how we should proceed to improve the organization and quality of liberal arts and sciences education.

During the next five months the Committee will be meeting intensively with groups across campus in order to move toward these ends. This public Web site will keep members of the University community informed of the Committee's work and also provide opportunities for members of the community to make comments and suggestions through the Public Web Forum on this site.

We welcome your participation, both real and virtual, and look forward to this opportunity to bring our best collective thinking to bear on this important issue.
