Realizing the Vision:
Integrative Studies
The Integrative Studies
Planning Committee is charged with the task of developing and
examining options for increased centralization of the IS portion
of MSU’s general education course requirements. It includes
17 faculty and students drawn from a broad range of colleges and
disciplines, including the current directors of the three IS Centers.
Norm Graham, Associate Dean of James Madison College, is serving
as Committee Chair (grahamn@msu.edu).
The work of the Committee is divided into at least two phases.
This past summer the deliberations focused on the desirability
of and alternative options for increased centralization of Integrative
Studies. A preliminary report on this effort is now available
for review as a document at this site (see Integrative Studies
Progress Report, 8/15/04). Faculty, students and administrators
are invited to comment on these options, and a series of meetings
is being organized to facilitate this process. A second and perhaps
third phase of deliberations will focus more directly on issues
relating to the Integrative Studies curriculum, its delivery and
assessment, in the light of the work of the other RTV task forces
and ongoing examination of restructuring options.
