Realizing the Vision:
Residential College Program

The New Residential College Program Planning Committee is charged with undertaking the exploration leading to recommendations to establish a new residential college with a global or international perspective for students in the liberal and creative arts and sciences.

The work of the planning group involves the review of innovative liberal arts residential programs at other institutions; a determination of the types of students MSU hopes to attract to the program, and the potential outcomes for these students; the identification of potential linkages across the campus with the program; the development of a broad programmatic description of the new residential program; the identification of the needed resources for the program; the timeline for program development and implementation; the potential connectivity between undergraduate majors and graduate programs; and plans for increasing faculty involvement across campus and criteria for faculty selection into the program.

Mindful of the expectation to have the first class of the new residential college enter in the fall of 2005, the planning group has been working diligently since early May and expects to provide for review a draft concept paper to the Provost by the beginning of August. We expect to have an interim report available for commentary at the beginning of the semester with a final report to the Provost by mid October.

We hope this site will be helpful and encourage additional input and opportunity for contact with the committee.
